Gaining Resilience Inside Trauma was created as an answer to the ever-growing trauma cycles that are left unkempt, untreated, and lead to deeper cycles within communities. By addressing our early childhood trauma through peer led support groups, trainings, mentoring, and advocacy Light Carrier has already impacted BIPOC systems engagement on multiple levels.
Motherhood is a peer led support group for Mothers who have lost their children to violence. Motherhood encourages safe healing from a lived approach through self-defined advocacy and action. From establishing healthy coping mechanisms to creating organizations in their loved one's name, Light Carrier uses a high-fidelity wraparound service model to support our mothers. Our partnership with Fatherhood Support Services allows a continuum of care for the entire family that is affected through violence.
The Only Necessary Element is a youth violence prevention, intervention, and interruption initiative designed to collapse youth violence. T.O.N.E. is made up of three men who were incarcerated during the "Summer of Violence", served more than 20 years, and are back to give youth the tools and skills to overcome gang involvement and eliminate youth violence. Creating certified peer navigators with a trauma informed lens to carry out the V.E.I.N.S. model of disruption is the answer that has been missing in reducing and eliminating youth violence.
The Active Collective Trauma collaborative was started in 2020 with the intention of addressing systems of oppression and their current stronghold on BIPOC communities. This three-day event was held over the Summer of 2022 and garnered more then 900 participants. This Summit is like nothing ever before experienced in allowing conversations and solutions for communities to navigate the daily micro/macro aggressions felt throughout our nation. The education, healing circles, presentations, art, music, dance, intentional conversations, action planning, and healing that happened are the healing needed for true transformation from surviving to thriving.
As a response to carrying forward the ACR=T Summit the creation of RE*ACT was imminent in continued support asked for by community voices throughout the Summit. RE*ACT is designed to provide education, resources, and access to people in positions of power. This series is a 2–4-hour workshop facilitated and hosted by collaborative community partnerships with community-based organizations already doing the work.
Ignite Colorado is an initiative created to address civic engagement in BIPOC communities. Ignite Colorado carries forward impactful actions to support healthier legislation and political movements that favor historically disenfranchised populations.
In 2019 Bigger Than Me was created to meet the food needs of those slipping through the cracks of current systems. Bigger Than Me held a weekly foodbank at the Park Hill Golf Course that fed more than 900 people a week. This initiative fueled the desire to not only give a meal but to recreate food sustainability in a way that would disrupt the current philanthropic cycles. In 2022 Light Carrier received $25,000 from The Big Green DAO and has dedicated work towards generating sustainable food programs across the nation. Working with a mogul like Kimbal Musk has encouraged Light Carriers mission to feed the planet one garden at a time. The introduction of our Freight Farm is coming in early 2023...stay tuned!!!
